Opening exhibition at Unit Twenty-One Southend

Unit Twenty One is a brand new cultural space in the heart of Southend on Sea, right by the seafront and the pier. Last night I attended the opening event, showcasing the space and the launch of the first exhibition, 100% Southend. 100% Southend is a collection of artworks by local artists, all with the Southend/SS Postcodes. It showed a diverse range of the talents and styles available of the local artistic scene.

I was proud to have a piece in this opening exhibition and there was a real buzz on opening night. The room was full and full of chatter about the new space. It is a lovely light filled space, and perfectly located right on the front to pop into.

The brief for the art was to use the traditional format of a A4 piece of art, which the gallery then framed and formed part of the exhibition. I designed my piece to feature positive words and images as that reflects both my work and hopes for the space we live in. Mine is the colourful, yellows and greens piece top centre here.

The sun even made an appearance after a very wet day and we managed a walk back along the seafront and enjoyed the gorgeous Estuary views.

You can find out more about the exhibition here on Focal Point Gallery events page.
